Transport climate policy

Of all the environmental problems associated with transportation, greenhouse gas emissions are perhaps the hardest to tackle. Despite all the good intentions and efforts on the part of policy-makers and others, emissions continue to grow.

Our work on this theme is concerned with finding technological and policy-based solutions: by evaluating specific CO2 reduction measures, by elaborating the wider climate control options available to the transport sector, and by analysing how transport climate policy relates to allied policy in other sectors.

Under the heading Transport & Climate Policy we address the following main topics:
  • Evaluation of policy options to reduce transport CO2 emissions, including pricing policy, emissions trading and statutory regulations
  • Assessment of the environmental performance and costs of current and future biofuels
  • Climate policies for marine shipping
In our work on this theme we also collaborate closely with our Environmental Economics colleagues on Policy Reviews.

Our clients include the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment, the European Environmental Agency (EEA), the Netherlands Petroleum Industry Association (VNPI), Agentschap NL, Nedalco BV, Friends of the Earth-The Netherlands and the Dutch National Research Programme on Global Air Pollution and Climate Change.
