Improving transport energy efficiency: factsheets for the 2017 National Energy Outlook

In October 2017 the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN), the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) and Netherlands Statistics (CBS) published the 2017 edition of the National Energy Outlook. Under the earlier Agreement on Energy for Sustainable Growth a series of actions and policies were agreed on in the transport/traffic sector, in pursuit of total energy cuts of 15 to 20 petajoules in 2020. For the previous National Energy Outlook, published in 2016, PBL and CE Delft estimated and described the impacts of these measures in factsheets (PBL, CE Delft, 2017). For the new Outlook document, PBL and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment commissioned CE Delft, ECN and TNO to update some of the existing factsheets and prepare several new ones on actions whose impacts were not estimated in the previous Outlook.

This document covers the following issues and will serve as input for the 2017 Outlook:

  • LNG
  • WLTP (Worldwide harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure)
  • Emissions reduction in the logistics sector (update)
  • Behavioural measures in passenger transport (update)
  • Cycling
  • Sustainable procurement
