senior researcher/consultant

With my know-how on climate policy and transport emissions I work on projects that provide clients insight into how policy targets in these areas can be secured. For the transport sector as a whole, or specifically for road transport or inland shipping, I identify what policy options and technologies lead to cuts in transport emissions.

Much of my work is related to the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED) and Fuel Quality Directive (FQD). I have a solid understanding of policies on biofuels, including key sustainability aspects like indirect land use. At the request of European NGOs, for example, I recently examined how the RED’s 10% target for transport fuels can be secured without using crop-sourced biofuels. For DG Energy of the European Commission I  have investigated the short-term technical scope for marketing various grades of biofuels.

In addition to biofuels, I am also involved in the seventh framework programme OPTIMISM. The task of CE Delft in this context is to collaborate with European consortium partners on assessing how ICT applications like the public transport smartcard and route planners impact on the carbon emissions of the transport sector.

I came to work at CE Delft in 2011, having completed my Environmental Science degree (specialisation: environmental policy and management) at Wageningen University in 2009.
