A comprehensive transition away from natural gas to sustainable heat sources for the built environment is indispensable if the Netherlands is to achieve its climate targets. This study (published in Dutch) zooms in on the potential role of bioboilers in this heat transition.
At the request of the Dutch Association of Biomass Boiler Suppliers (NBKL) CE Delft established under what circumstances in-building bioboilers would be the best solution for greening heating systems in the Netherlands and how many such boilers would then be required. An estimate was also made of the scale of government subsidy that would be needed to implement these numbers if other policies remained unchanged.
